INDUCTEES

ARTHUR J. CHISHOLM

(PLAYER)

We would like to join the Beanpot Hockey Tournament and Northeastern Hockey Hall of Fame in inducting the Northeastern Husky who still holds the record for the most goals at Northeastern.

As a hockey player in Massachusetts during the 1960s, Art exemplified what it means to be elite through his character on and off the ice, and his play.  A two-time All-American center scored a record 100 goals and 81 assists for 181 points in only 71 games between 1959 and 1961. Art was an All-East, All-New England and Beanpot All-Tournament selection. He won the Walter Brown Trophy his junior year as New England's Outstanding Player.

Plus, he played three games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins. Art was the first New England collegiate player to play for the Bruins after World War II and he was an  ECAC referee for 18 years.

He played a large part in expanded participation numbers in youth hockey across the state and around the country exciting folks with his skills.

JOSEPH A. CURNANE II

(BUILDER)

As a builder for hockey in Massachusetts, Joe's involvement in our District’s successes, such as the Boston Bruins/Youth Hockey License Plates program, are the reasons Massachusetts Hockey has such a solid framework to rely on for years to come.

Additionally, he set the video structure not only for the hockey community in Massachusetts but for the entire hockey family across the United States, including USA Hockey, Collegiate Hockey and the National Hockey League. He was nicknamed Video Joe by legendary Boston Bruins trainer John Forristall and began videotaping hockey 50 years ago.

Also, Joe created and has administered many events and awards including the Boston Bruins High School Hockey Girls John Carlton Memorial Award, which has become one of the most significant high school awards in the country. He worked for the Boston Bruins for 23 years, including 16 years as assistant to former Bruins President Harry Sinden.

DANIEL ESDALE

(BUILDER)

Like with Joe Curnane, Dan's involvement in our District’s successes, such as serving as the Massachusetts Hockey president when the the Boston Bruins/Youth Hockey License Plates program was created, are the reasons Massachusetts Hockey has such a solid framework to rely on for years to come.

Additionally, through his involvement in many areas like the coaching education program and rule changes, we continue to see Dan's input being implemented today. For example, USA Hockey recently removed the rule about waiving off icing when a team is shorthanded, which Dan was an integral part of introducing years ago.

WILLIAM F. HANSON

(COACH)

As a coach, Bill's involvement shows in the players he coached, such as current Harvard Coach Ted Donato and 1996 NHL Vezina trophy winner Jim Carey.

Yes, Bill's legendary coaching career can not only be shown in statistics like the 17 MIAA State Championships (including 13 in the Super 8 Tournament) but also in his support and guidance of numerous players throughout the Massachusetts Hockey Player Development process. His 608 career victories are the third-most in MIAA hockey history, behind only the late Ed Burns of Arlington and former Matignon coach Marty Pierce.

Among the many accolades Hanson garnered during his coaching career, he was twice named National Coach of the Year by USA Today and is a member of the Massachusetts State Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame, as well as CM's athletic Hall of Fame.

JOE GIULIOTTI

(ALL-AROUND)

Joe Giuliotti is a man who has worn many hats, including as a writer covering youth, high school, collegiate and professional hockey for the Boston Herald. His standards of coverage for the Hockey East Conference and the Beanpot Tournament is what news coverage looks to mirror to this day. Not only did Joe cover hockey but he became involved as a coach, a mentor, an advocate and even a goal judge for places like East Boston High School, Shawsheen Technical High School and Dominic Savio High School. Joe has been the recipient of the Joel Perlmutter Award from the Mass. State Hockey Coaches Association, the Murray Kramer "Scarlet Quill" Award for Outstanding Coverage of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Dave OʼHara Award from the Baseball Writers Association of America. He has been honored by the East Boston Athletic Board with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his involvement with youth.
