Leadership Conference Speaker is Northeastern Head Coach

NU Fernie Flaman Head Coach Jim Madigan is the Featured Guest Speaker!

We are happy to announce that our featured Guest Speaker for the 2018 Association Leadership Conference is 2018 Beanpot Championship winning Northeastern Men's Ice Hockey Fernie Flaman Coach Jim Madigan.

Don’t wait for next season to learn more about the initiatives, opportunities and education available for ALL hockey associations in Massachusetts. It is a great chance to be a part of the solution!

Massachusetts Hockey is hosting the 2018 Association Leadership Conference Sponsored by Pure Hockey. The event takes place on Sat., May 5, 2018 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sheraton Needham Hotel, 100 Cabot Street, Needham, MA 02494.

This day will provide direction and resources for veteran leaders and new volunteers to learn how to provide the best experiences for their hockey players.

By attending, you will have a chance to WIN equipment for your association, such as the QuickChange Goalie Equipment, OneGoal Gear and Hockey Bumper System.

Last year’s attendees are already planning on joining again this season and to learn even more!

"We wish we had all of our board members here to soak in all this great information," said an attendee from last year's conference. 

There will be a roundtable discussion, small discussion breakout groups and a SPECIAL main speaker during lunch.

Schedule and topics are subject to change on availability. The schedule will be posted closer to the event date.

“Everyone, both attendees and speakers, were great, knowledgeable and approachable,” said another attendee from last year's conference.

The following is a list of confirmed topics and speakers. There will be more added closer to the event, including the special speaker. The final schedule will be posted closer to the event date.

Growing and Sustaining Your Organization with Andy Gibson, USA Hockey Coordinator for Program Services. Also, he will review USA Hockey’s Club Excellence tool.

Milton Youth Hockey will go over their Learn to Play program and how to build a culture around those logistics.

Cambridge Youth Hockey will discuss growing their hockey membership with other sports in the community and non-traditional hockey families.


Topics proposed to be discussed:

There will be an opportunity to be apart of round table discussions where Associations can discuss and voice their opinions with others on hot button topics.

Topics that will be discussed in breakout sessions include but are not limited to:

  • Marketing Associations to:
    • School systems
    • Non-traditional hockey familes
    • Other sports programs in your community
    • Long-term effect on your program all the way through high school
    • Effect on the sports community in your town
  • Learn to Skate/Play Hockey Program
    • The effect of building a culture at LTP level
      • Growth/retention at older age groups
    • Building member into leadership roles
    • Logistics/use of ice

    • Communication
    • Getting all coaches on the same page
