Brian Eklund & Brian Robinson Both Joining as Goaltender Coordinators

New Massachusetts Hockey Goaltender Coordinators

Massachusetts Hockey is happy to announce the addition of Brian Eklund as Goaltender Development Coordinator and Brian Robinson as Player Development Goaltender Coordinator. Both have been involved on our Player Development staff during prior seasons and are highly recommended by USA Hockey.

The Goaltender Development position was developed by USA Hockey and its affiliates last season a part of the major goaltending initiative tasked with enhancing grassroots goalie development in the United States. Both Eklund and Robinson will be coming on board after a successful inaugural season with Brian Daccord as Massachusetts Hockey's original Player Development Goaltender Coordinator.

Eklund will be responsible for the development of all our Massachusetts Hockey organizations goaltenders and education of coaches. The coordinators’ multifaceted duties will include educating local goalie coaches, meeting with clubs and associations to implement goalie training curriculum and leading USA Hockey’s student goaltending coach programs.

Robinson will be responsible for the development and organization for all of our goaltending activities involved with Player Development. This includes but not limited to working on goaltending selection protocol for national camps.

Currently, Eklund is owner of Mass Crease Goaltending and the goaltending coach for the men’s ice hockey team at Boston University. He was a former goalie coach at Harvard University. During his playing days, he was drafted by Tampa Bay Lightning in the 7th round (226th overall) of the 2000 Entry Draft and apart of the 2004 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning team after playing four years at Brown University. Also, he played for Archbishop Williams high school and won the Division 1 State Championship. And he is a recipient of the John Carlton Award presented by the Boston Bruins.

Robinson currently is the goaltender coach for the men’s ice hockey team for Harvard University and managing director and video coordinator for Stop It Goaltending. He has worked at Stop It Goaltending, since January 2007. He works with netminders at the NHL, AHL and collegiate level, developing them through on-ice training, as well as video sessions. Also, he has served as the goaltending coach for Bentley from 2011-2015. Additionally, Robinson has international coaching experience, working with the Chinese women’s national team briefly, assisting with USA Hockey and coaching with Adler Mannheim of Germany. Robinson is a 2010 graduate of Worcester State.

Plus, both are a part of the Massachusetts Hockey Goaltending Development Advisory Group. This group helps Mass Hockey assess the current state of goaltending development, discuss and propose ways to improve the structure and processes in place and review the Massachusetts Player Development goaltending.
