Former Player, Coach from Massachusetts Remembered

Massachusetts Hockey joins many in the hockey community in mourning the loss of Centerville, Mass. native David Gove.

Dave played for the Cape Cod Seahawks and Barnstable Youth Hockey before heading to Thayer Academy, Western Michigan University and a pro career.

Also, he was a former assistant coach for the Barnstable High School boys varsity ice hockey team.

"The Pittsburgh Penguins organization is saddened by the passing of Dave Gove," Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement issued Friday morning. "Dave touched many lives in the hockey world as both a player and coach. We express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends."

Mr. Gove had a professional hockey career that spanned from 2000 to 2009.

He played for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Baby Penguins from 2007 to 2009, according to The website also said he played two games in the NHL, both with the Carolina Hurricanes. 

He was assistant coach and head coach of the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers for part of the 2015-16 season. He left the team for personal reasons with the support of Wheeling ownership in April 2016.
