Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame Announces 2025 Inductees and Induction Ceremony Details

Falmouth, MA – March 25, 2025 – The Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame is proud to announce the 2025 Induction Ceremony, set to honor and celebrate the achievements of five distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to the sport of hockey in Massachusetts.

The event will take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at SeaCrest Beach Resort in Falmouth, MA. The evening will begin with a private reception at 5:00 PM, followed by dinner and awards at 6:00 PM. This event offers a unique opportunity to recognize the individuals who have shaped the game and the community in Massachusetts. Sophia Jurksztowicz, NESN Bruins Broadcaster will host. 

Past inductees read like a “who’s who” of hockey heroes who over the past 60 years have helped position Massachusetts as the hotbed of hockey in the United States.  The list is stock full of Olympic and Paralympic heroes, college and NHL stars, female pioneers, high school and college coaching legends, distinguished referees and media icons, as well as a cadre of dedicated, behind-the-scenes grassroots builders who have spent decades furthering the growth and development of the game in Massachusetts.

Throughout the history of hockey in the United States, Massachusetts has been a constant in providing both on-ice talent and off-ice leadership to our great game. The Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame is proud to honor some of our most talented and most dedicated contributors to the sport. 

Inductees are chosen on the basis of accomplishments in the game of hockey, sportsmanship, character and contributions to his or her teams and programs. Each inductee must have distinguished himself or herself by exceptional performance and outstanding character reflecting favorably upon the game of hockey in Massachusetts, be in good public standing in the community, and appropriate role model for young hockey players and an exemplary representative of the game of hockey.

The 2025 Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame Inductees Include:

Mike Grier

Mike Grier (Player) - With a long and successful NHL career, Mike Grier played for the Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, and San Jose Sharks. Grier made history as the first African American NHL player to train in the United States and went on to become the league's first Black general manager. His trailblazing journey continues to inspire young players today. Mike grew up in Holliston, MA. 

Tony Marmo

Tony Marmo (Legend) - A groundbreaking figure in girls' hockey, Tony Marmo founded the Massport Jets program in 1970, laying the foundation for the growth of girls’ ice hockey. His passion for the game and his commitment to creating opportunities for female players have made him a pioneer in the sport.

Christine Mayer

Christine Mayer (Builder) – Christine is a longtime valued board member with both Massachusetts Hockey and USA Hockey, Christine has played an instrumental role in advancing safety in Hockey in the state of Massachusetts, helping to shape the future of hockey for generations to come. Christine resides in Wellesley, MA. 

Bill O'Neill

Bill O'Neill (Coach) – A coaching legend with 42 years of service to the Salem State Men's Hockey program, Bill O'Neil ranks second all-time in total victories in Division III hockey. His unwavering commitment to the team and dedication to developing student-athletes have made a lasting impact on the program. Bill is from Salem, MA.

Brian "Duke" Walsh

Duke Walsh (Player) – An All-American from Notre Dame, Duke Walsh is still the university’s all-time leader in assists and ranks among the top five in career scoring. His exceptional skills on the ice left a lasting legacy, and he continues to be remembered as one of the greatest players in college hockey history. Duke is from Cambridge, MA.
