Massachusetts Hockey is saddened to share the news that Gary S. Eggleston passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Gary was born on January 15, 1935 in Melrose, MA. Gary attended public school in Melrose, MA and left to attend the New Hampton School in New Hampshire where he would excel as a goalie on their hockey team.
Upon his induction to the New Hampton Hall of Fame, Gary was quoted saying: "No one involved in hockey ever expects recognition like this. Rewards for me were always those received from seeing players, especially those from New England, whom I had scouted and promoted, go on to enjoy successful college and NHL careers."
Gary worked for a number of years as a sales rep for Open Court Publishing Company, before beginning his full-time career as NHL's Central Scouting's Hockey East scout. He would spend 31 seasons with NHL’s Central Scouting Bureau, before retiring in 2012. Hockey was a lifelong passion for Gary. Gary was a long time member of the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame Committee where he would advocate for figures important to the development and advancement of ice hockey in Massachusetts. Gary was inducted into the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.
