Mass Hockey Hall of Fame, Introducing the Class of 2023

Boston, MA – Joining a stellar lineup of past and current hockey greats recognized for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the sport of ice hockey in Massachusetts, nine men and one woman will be inducted into the Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame on Sunday November 19, 2023.  The 24th annual luncheon and induction ceremony will take place at Anthony’s of Malden. Longtime college hockey commissioner Joe Bertagna will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The class of 2023 inductees include:

  •         Jerry York, legendary head coach of Boston College - (Watertown)
  •         Joe McCabe, longtime coach of BC High – (Cambridge) 
  •         Jackie Barto, coach of Ohio State and Providence College women’s hockey - (West Newton)
  •         Tom Rowe, former professional hockey player, and coach - (Lynn)
  •         Wes Tuttle, former GM, New England Sports Center – (Marlborough)

2023 Legends:

  •         Dr. Roland Marsolais – (Melrose)
  •         Frank Spain – (Newton)
  •         Gerry Cosby – (Roxbury)
  •         Peter Bessone – (West Springfield)

Past inductees read like a “who’s who” of hockey heroes who over the past 60 years have helped position Massachusetts as the hotbed of hockey in the United States.  The list is stock full of Olympic and Paralympic heroes, college and NHL stars, female pioneers, high school and college coaching legends, distinguished referees and media icons, as well as a cadre of dedicated, behind-the-scenes grassroots builders who have spent decades furthering the growth and development of the game in Massachusetts.

Throughout the history of hockey in the United States, Massachusetts has been a constant in providing both on-ice talent and off-ice leadership to our great game. The Massachusetts Hockey Hall of Fame is proud to honor some of our most talented and most dedicated contributors to the sport. 

Inductees are chosen on the basis of accomplishments in the game of hockey, sportsmanship, character and contributions to his or her teams and programs. Each inductee must have distinguished himself or herself by exceptional performance and outstanding character reflecting favorably upon the game of hockey in Massachusetts, be in good public standing in the community, and appropriate role model for young hockey players and an exemplary representative of the game of hockey.
