Coaching requirements for 2021-22

We are ramping up for the upcoming 2021-2022 USA Hockey season in Massachusetts and across the country.

Thank  you to all the coaches who have continued to lead, guide and support our players, despite all the obstacles we have experienced in the past year. You deserve every “Thank You” that you hear.

Thank you to our USA Hockey Officials, who have unique challenges of their own to manage games. Coaches, Players, and Spectators must always keep in mind that, without our officials, there is no game. They are the third team on the ice that makes competition possible. Let’s encourage them, especially the younger ones, by being supportive and respectful.

AVOIDING THE COACHING CLIFF

  • Register as a COACH with USA Hockey for the 2021-22 season.
  • AGE-SPECIFIC MODULES must be COMPLETE for each age group you are coaching under the new system before a coach can be put on a roster.  If you are coaching the same age group you do not have to do the modules over again.
    • If a coach has a 10U module and move up to 12U they will need to take the new 10/12U module.
    • If a coach has a 14U module they do not need to do the new 13+ module if the coach is coaching a 14U team.
    • If a coach has a 16/18/19 module and the coach is coaching a 14U team that coach will have to take the 13+ module.
    • A coach does not need to take the 13+ module if the coach has a 16/18/19 module and coaching a 16/18/19 team.
    • NOTE:  New modules will be ready in the next few weeks.
  • Register for a CLINIC.  The clinic season runs from September to December.  Clinics are limited right now but more will be posted in the month of September through December.
    • ATTEND the clinic that you need to stay current by the December 31 Deadline (Split Season by October 31).  If you are not sure what clinic you should attend go to the USA Hockey’s website Coaches Certification List to check your current certification and the expiration date.
  • Complete the SAFESPORT CERTIFICATION . . . Every year! A coach will start with the SafeSport Core Training which is good for one year.  The coach will then take the SafeSport Refresher Training 1 which is good for one year.  Then the coach will have to take the SafeSport Refresher Training 2 which is good for one year.  At the end of that year the coach will have to take the SafeSport Core Training again and repeat the process.
  • BACKGROUND SCREENING CHECK . . . Every two years. Click here to be directed to the Background Screening with USA Hockey.
