Mass Hockey mourns the loss of Josephine (Jo) T. DiFilippo

Massachusetts Hockey is extremely sad to share the news that Josephine Theresa (Jennings) DiFilippo, 83, wife of Ron DiFilippo, passed away at home on August 21, 2021, after a long illness.

Warmly regarded as Jo to those who knew her, she was a long time fixture in youth hockey in Massachusetts and throughout USA Hockey. 

Massachusetts Hockey's Annual Ron & Jo DiFilippo Registrar of the Year Award, which honors a local Registrar who went above and beyond their duties each season, is named after the dedicated couple. For over 40 years, Jo assisted Ron with all of their USA Hockey and Massachusetts Hockey Registrar duties.

Josephine Theresa (Jennings) DiFilippo, wife of Ron DiFilippo, passed away at home on August 21, 2021, after a long illness.  Josephine was born on February 6, 1938, the daughter of the late Patrick and Margaret (Leahy) Jennings.  She grew up in Salem, graduating from St. James High School. Ron and Josephine settled in Wenham where they raised their sons. Josephine worked for many years for USA-Mass Hockey, assisting Ron in his Registrar duties. Josephine enjoyed traveling abroad with Ron, visiting Ireland with family and friends, spending time in Maine and on Cape Cod, celebrating the holidays with family, and most especially, caring for her five grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Ron, Josephine is survived by two sons and their wives, Mike and Mary Beth DiFilippo and their children Michael, Matthew, and Mary, and Ron and Lori DiFilippo and their children Alexi and AJ. Josephine was predeceased by two brothers, Salem Police Captain William Jennings, and John Jennings, and four sisters, Kathleen and Patricia Jennings, Eileen White, and Margaret Bellaconis.  She is survived by her sister Nancy Mulligan and sister-in-law Rose Jennings, and many nieces and nephews.
