After a comprehensive review last season, the Massachusetts Hockey Board of Directors voted on and approved a revised copy of the Rules and Regulations at their May meeting. These rules are included in the current Massachusetts Hockey Annual Guide.

The Mass Hockey Board of Directors confirmed in November 2020 that all tryouts for the following season (2021-22) are not allowed to be held any earlier than March 15, 2021.

This applies to all Massachusetts Hockey registered associations at all age levels.

*- If a program intends to enter a team for the National Bound tournament, then ALL tryouts in that age-classification must follow the timeline for the National Bound tryouts. This is a change from past practice. To be clear - if, for example, you intend to participate 16u National Bound, you cannot hold tryouts for 16u "Non-National Bound" teams before the date for National Bound Tryouts.

If any association does not comply with this rule, they will be ineligible to participate in any Mass Hockey State Tournament for the following season at the specific age classification that held the tryouts prior to the specified date. If the violation occurs within a National Bound age group, the association will be ineligible to participate in the National Bound State Tournament for three seasons. Additionally, associations may lose their membership and good standing status with Mass Hockey and USA Hockey, lose access to USA Hockey's Registration Portal and be unable to prepare rosters or register teams.
