Ways to keep active and entertained at home

Hi Massachusetts friends and families--How are we all doing?

We know, it’s hard. It stinks, and it’s less than ideal. BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t use this time to still watch/talk/play hockey.

Here are a few ways to help keep our hockey hearts, minds and bodies active and positive:

Watch

Just because there’s no live hockey to watch, doesn’t mean you can’t get your hockey fix. Maybe you toss on Miracle as a reminder that the name on the front is more important than the one on the back. Have yet to see the amazing Willie O’Ree documentary on ESPN? Now’s the time to stream it. And hey, we don’t know about you, but we can never get enough of Boston Bruins championship replays or Boston Pride’s highlight-reel goals.

Play

Remember how we are always talking about the importance of pond hockey and unorganized creativity? Now’s the time to really put that to use. Just because you can’t gather with your friends, doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to improve your game AND have some fun. See below for other association and virtual team challenges. Want to make a video/TikTok? Send us your trickshots, your stickhandling, your passing/shooting/scoring. Whatever it is, we want to see it. Tag us and use #MassHockeyAtHome so we can share with the #MassProud communities.

Do Good

Help mom with keeping the house clean. Give dad a hand in the yard. See if the family can pick up some groceries or toiletries for elderly neighbors. There’s no doubt, a lot of this can make us feel uneasy and maybe a little bit scared. But to quote a wise man in Mr. Fred Rogers: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find the people who are helping.’” Be the helpers. Be the good.

READ

Grab your local newspaper and give the sports and the news section a read. Maybe you have a favorite online sports blog or subscription, or maybe you’ve been dying to work through your list of hockey books (some solid suggestions here). Give your brain a workout, mixed with some sports fun, by reading whatever interests you.

keep busy with #MassHockey

So many of our friends are offering challenges, workouts and fun to keep us sane. Take a look at what’s out there in our community and around the country.
