Nicole de Moulpied with the help of others in neighboring towns are starting a no-check ice hockey league.

Her dream of a no-check league is a due to her 12-year-old son, Brenner. He loves to play ice hockey but has already suffered two concussions off the ice. De Moulpied does not want to deny her son the opportunity a game he loves. On the other hand, she does not want to see her son suffer another head injury.

USA Hockey rules do allow any league to prohibit checking at any age.

Through word of mouth, de Moulpied’s initiative is now offering a no-check program that is open to all programs participating in the Valley Hockey League.

“A lot of these kids love the sport so much, and the sport does so many good things for kids, whether they’re playing in a checking or no-check league,” she said in USA Hockey Magazine.
