Massachusetts Hockey has Been Informed by the USA Hockey Player Development Committee

Massachusetts Hockey has been informed by the USA Hockey Player Development Committee that its request for a limited number of full ice games during the season has been approved for the 2016-17 season. Next season, any USA Hockey/Massachusetts Hockey sanctioned program is limited to no more than six full-ice games after January 1, 2017 and one tournament after December 25, 2016.

This is a slight reduction from the current 2015-16 season that allowed a maximum of eight full-ice games and one tournament. This reduction is consistent with the efforts across the country to encourage players ages 8 and under to play games on age appropriate playing surfaces.

This information is being shared with all of our league partners in addition to Massachusetts Hockey membership. Any member who is concerned about the development of their child on a smaller ice surface is encouraged to click either of the links below for additional information about the benefits of small-area games.

The updated language will be included in the 2016-17 Annual Guide which will be available in early August 2016. We encourage all program leaders and persons responsible for mite scheduling read and understand the current language in the 2015-16 Annual Guide (Article VI, Section 3; Mite Games) on page 31. The Annual Guide is available here: Annual Guide and/or below.
