LRP
Proposals
The intent of these meetings is to allow anyone who would like to speak on
these topics and as they may relate to the future direction of Mass Hockey to
present their thoughts to the committee. While the committee members may ask
clarifying questions the intent is not to debate these issues. Each speaker will
be given sufficient time to present their thoughts and then we will move on to
the next speaker.
The committee will allow up to 20 speakers each night. All who would like to
address the committee must send an email to the committee chair, Tom Troiano, at
Tmtroiano@aol.com to be added to
the agenda. Please indicate in the email which night you would like to speak. If
you cannot attend either meeting you may submit any thoughts you have in writing
by Friday October 28th, 2011. The committee will review all written comments but
we prefer that you address the committee in person if your schedule permits. The
committee will not provide any other opportunities to present information to the
committee on this particular topic.
All questions regarding these meetings should be addressed to Tom Troiano at

Thank you.

World's Greatest
Guy: A Tribute to Mike
John
Michael Carey,
53 years old, of North Reading, formerly of Wakefield, passed away peacefully at
home on May 31, 2011 with his family by his side after a courageous battle with
Brain Cancer. John went by many names, most folks knew him simply as Mike,
others knew him as “Bucky” or “Coach Mike”, and his wife often called him Johnny
Mike. For so many people in North Reading, he was the ‘Mayor’ because he was
always there to lend a helping hand, or a shoulder to lean on to anyone in need.
The ‘Mayor’ was the source for all the news in town.
To
meet Mike was to instantly be his friend, with Mike, there was no ‘six degrees
of separation’, just one inner ring where anyone who came in contact with him
stood. He had a passion for life like no others. He always met you with a smile
and left you with his laughter, which started, like a distant freight train,
beginning in his toes, moving through his body, and finally to his shoulders,
heaving, and then, the room filled with his laugh and instantly everyone smiled.
Mike’s greatest gift was to put everyone else at ease, even as he fought this
battle and made them feel better.
Yet, Mike’s biggest love was for his family, for which he was always there to be
the very best father, husband, brother or son he could be. His two sons were his
pride and joy. Mike’s biggest smiles came when riding his Harley, boating on
Lake Winnipesaukee and running the hills all over town. He traveled the world,
but loved home, where he was happiest because his greatest love was being with
family and numerous friends. His devotion to his wife was immeasurable. He was a
tremendous role model and father. He was a regular guy who was an exceptional
person.
He
was involved in youth sports for many years and his most recent pride was as the
coach of a team of great hockey players from Melrose. Whether coaching or
raising his boys as a stay at home dad Mike always made you feel like you were
his priority. Later in life, Mike took up kickboxing, ultimately becoming so
skilled that he became an instructor, teaching his student ladies, to protect
themselves, but mostly, teaching them to have his positive outlook in life.
He
is survived by his wife of 25 years, Elizabeth A. [Clapp] Carey, his two sons,
Jeffrey and Ross Carey; His parents, the late Elizabeth M. Carey of Wakefield,
John J. Carey Jr., and Lois P. Carey of New Hampshire. His sisters Joanne Carey
of California, Ginger Lord and her husband Sean of Wilmington, Pam Parent and
her husband Ken of Tewksbury, and Debbie Landry of New Hampshire. A Sister in
law, Diane Madden and husband Keith of Virginia. And, many nieces, nephews and
Willie G.
Calling hours will be at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park Street, North Reading
MA Friday June 3rd from 3-8pm. Services will be held Saturday, June 4, 2011 at
St. Florence Church(47 Butler Avenue, Wakefield) at 10:30am. For the procession
please meet at 9 am at Cota Funeral Home. Motorcycles are encouraged for the
procession. The Horseshoe Grille in North Reading is dedicating their annual
golf tournament to Mike Carey this year, with the money raised going to The
Jimmy Fund in Mike’s name. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please
make contributions to The Jimmy Fund/Horseshoe Grille. Any questions can be
directed to the Horseshoe Grille at 978-664-1106
