Q: Can my program apply for a Cheever Grant?
Top
A: Mike
Cheever Grow Hockey Development Program grants are available
to all Massachusetts Hockey Town programs as well as other
non-profit organizations that provide enrichment to the
youth of Massachusetts through creative and constructive
youth hockey programs.
Q: What is the application process?
Top
A: First,
you should meet with your organization’s board of directors
to ensure you have its complete support. Next, you will need
to complete an “Intent to Submit” form at
www.mahockey.org/cheever.
Finally, you will need to complete the Mike Cheever “Grow
Hockey” Development Program application also located on the
Mass Hockey website.
Q:
What are the due dates for the application process?
Top
A: The “Intent to Submit” must be submitted by Dec 31,
2011. The application must be submitted by January 31,
2012.
Q: Where can I find the application?
Top
A: The
Mike Cheever “Grow Hockey” Development Program application
can be found on the Mass Hockey website at
http://www.mahockey.org/cheever
Q: What if I need help completing the application?
Top
A: You may submit questions via
email to
cheeverinfo@mahockey.org.
Please allow up to five days for a response.
Q: Am I guaranteed to receive a grant?
Top
A: All
grant applications will be reviewed by the Mass Hockey
Cheever Committee and will be judged based on the merits of
the proposal and available funding. The committee reserves
the right to accept, reject or fully or partially fund any
proposal.
Q:
What does “sustainability” mean?
Top
A: Mass
Hockey’s intent is to fund ideas that will be
self-sufficient after the grant funds are expended. The
committee members will be looking for ideas that can
generate continued excitement and financial strength.
Therefore, when addressing “sustainability” please address
ways you believe that your new idea will continue in the
future without the financial support of Mass Hockey.
Q:
Can I really replicate someone else’s idea?
Top
A: Absolutely! The purpose of the grant is to generate
new ideas to grow the game. If those ideas were successful
for one program, other programs are encouraged to adopt
those ideas. We have posted past grant applications that
have been successful. You may use these applications as the
basis for your application. Please acknowledge the Program
you are replicating.
Q:
When will the grants be awarded?
Top
A: The
grant winners will be notified in late February. The program
winners will be announced and the grants will be awarded at
the March 09, 2012 Boston Bruins game.
Q:
What is USA Hockey's American Development Model?
Top
A: The American Development Model
is a nationwide model for successfully developing American
hockey players. It is by no means a mandate sent from USA
Hockey, but a tool that will ensure every kid will have the
same chance to succeed. By implementing ADM, associations
will see an increase in player retention. Again, ADM is not
a set of rules or mandates, but guidelines designed
specifically to help kids reach their full potential. For
more information please visit
http://www.admkids.com.
Q:
Will adopting ADM improve my scores?
Top
A: ADM applications are encouraged, but not guaranteed to
be awarded a grant.
Q:
My program was awarded a grant last year; can I still
apply this year?
Top
A: YES! Successful programs are encouraged to come up
with new ideas to grow the game. Several programs across the
state have been awarded multiple grants. Also, helping grow
the game in areas not currently addressed, e.g. special
needs or inner-city programs would be an example of a new
idea.
Q:
How much money will my program be awarded?
Top
A: That will depend on several factors including the
quality of your idea, total number of applications submitted
and available funding.
Q: Will I have to sign an agreement?
Top
A: Yes. We expect all grant recipients to execute an
agreement that they will use the funds for the purposes
consistent and be intended with their application.
